About GreaterRealms
« on: Nov 02, 2016, 11:11:29 PM »

GreaterRealms is a play-by-post, play-by-chat room FFRP role playing web site.

Our Play Style
GreaterRealm's role playing style could be called completely free-form. Generally dice-less, GR does not boast any Game Masters, Dungeon Masters, or staff which attempt to direct the plot or stories of anyone's character. GR's story lines and plot creation solely rest on the imaginative and wonderful shoulders of its players. This allows greater freedom in narrative role play; wherein through respect and communication, plots, stories and actions can be decided via team work and collaborative writing between players.

While staff do occasionally step in to create and host fun events, holiday inspired story lines, or chat-room fun, every member of GR is encouraged to create their own events, add them to the site, its event calendar and advertise as well as gather interested players on their own.

GreaterRealms is set on the planet of RhyDin, with a sprawling metropolis like city also named RhyDin; filled with modern and medieval buildings. It is long believed that a strange phenomenon called, "The Nexus," has been long responsible for transporting characters from every time and any planet to RhyDin. It is also believed that The Nexus is a highly unstable force. As such, RhyDin the planet is as chaotic as this driving force. Some weeks there may be new cities, new buildings, blink an eye and the next they may be gone or entirely overgrown with forests. Some unfortunate RhyDin refugees appear unable to return to their home planet or time, while others appear to be able to travel back and forth without issue.

The Nexus and RhyDin make for a wonderfully creative setting, as elves from Lord of the Rings may chance upon an encounter with a force-wielding Jedi at a bar, or a cowboy from earth may meet a random god from some distant planet and share a few amusing anecdotes about life. RhyDin and the Nexus make it so there is no limit as to what character can be played, from what genre, what time, and what background: be they original characters, characters based on popular media, or canon characters from well established lore.

Originally created circa 2010, GreaterRealms strives to provide a more mature alternative (never a replacement) to role playing RhyDin for those who wish to write outside of the PG-13 norms. For more information on how to get started here at GreaterRealms, please visit our Getting Started links.
You own a rock. It's a rock with a symbol on it. Nobody is sure what it does.    Light, flexible, and handy for the acrobatic types.    A versatile vegetable for cakes, stews, meals and rabbits.    RhyDin's finest home made brew. Random and questionable contents which all lead to the same thing: getting stupefied drunk. Warning label reads: May cause fire breathing, murderous rampages, embarassing confessions, illusions of grandeur, overly affectionate thoughts and gut rot. Drink at your own risk.    A heavy long steel shield, enchanted with nature and shaped to resemble a leaf. The shield is said to be able to cloak the bearer in forested areas three times a day.    Madam Curio's specialty potion. One potion can restore either a tiny tidbit of health, stamina, mana (magic), strength, dexterity, perceptions or intelligence with one draw back: the effect is random and the drinker has no idea which will be bolstered.   A steel shuriken, or throwing star. Easily concealed, these weapons can be thrown or hidden in the palm for slashing or puncturing.    A deep green ring carved from spinel. Engraved are shapes of twisting vines that seem to reach out. This ring is ensorcelled to allow the wearer to cast Tangling Vines, a spell to trap a target, twice a day.   A necklace with the mummified claw of a supposed harpy. It is said the necklace may grant the wearer feather fall once a day.    This health potion is enough to restore light wounds (cuts, bruises, knock outs.) It may be enough to keep serious wounds together long enough to seek medical attention...but it isn't recommended for near-death health issues.    A splendid long cloak dyed as black as a starless night. To keep a body warm or to keep them hidden in the shadows?
